【 Tale of the West 】
Back to the American Civil War in the 1860s, western cowboys only wore suspenders, while belts were primarily used by soldiers. However, as surplus military belts entered the second-hand market, cowboys began to accept belts worn around the waist. By early 1920s, belts had became the mainstream choice, and Western decorative patterns were also incorporated onto them.
Due to the cowboys' long hours working in the wilderness or on the plains, the flamboyant and eye-catching designs of Western attire served the purpose of making them recognisable even from a distance.
Craftsmen showcased their creativity by crafting decorative belt buckles for cowboys, gradually forming the western aesthetics. These belt buckles drew inspiration from natural environments, ethnic stories and important events.
